Part
of a worldwide network of 96 Instituts français, the Institut français du
Nigéria is promoting French language and culture and encouraging cross cultural
exchange and cultural diversity. Created in 1999, the Institut français du
Nigéria, formerly known as French cultural centre and based in Lagos, has
been located in the very heart of Abuja in Wuse 2 since 2009. It hosts the
Campus France agency in charge of promoting of the French higher education
and professional training in France.
Centre
of excellence for learning French, the Institut français du Nigéria
offers classes for children, students, or professionals. The institution
welcomes more than 2000 students every year and is also an accredited centre
for international examinations in French language (DELF DALF and TCF).
Through its French multimedia library, the Institut français du
Nigéria also offers the possibilities to access a great variety of books,
newspapers and resources to learn French. Moreover, with more than 50 events
on its cultural programme, the Institut français is one of the major
cultural centres of Abuja featuring every artistic field from contemporary
dance to music and cinema.
The
year 2016 is a period of change for Institut français du Nigéria: our
multimedia library has new collections focusing on providing appropriate
resources for our students, as well as a new digital space. We are also
offering new 3 months French session designed to prepare the official DELF
certification; and our cultural programme for the last quarter of 2016 is
full of new co-operations and artistic surprises!
To
inform the Abuja public of those innovations, the team of Institut français
has decided to open its doors on Saturday 17th September from 10 am to 5pm,
to give an insight of all the services it offers: French classes, French
library, Campus France and cultural events.
People
interested in learning French will be able to attend 20 minutes collective
classes and ask the teachers their questions about the methodology they use.
They will also be able to pre-register for the next session. For companies
who wish to apply their French to a specific professional context, our
private and professional courses as well as our translation services will be
presented through a conference.
A
golden opportunity for French speakers and literature lovers: on that day,
hundreds of books from our previous library collection will be sold at cut
prices. Our new library will be open all day long so that the public can
discover our printed and digital resources and become a member.
For
young Nigerians who are interested in having their Curriculum Vitae checked,
our Campus France officer will be at their disposal to give advice on how to
write a good cover letter and CV in French or English and to proofread their
documents. A conference on the French Higher Education system and
opportunities to study in France will also take place.
The
programme of cultural activities for the next quarter will be presented as
well. It features, among others, an animated film festival, dance
performances, professional workshops for artists and panel discussions.
Artists, cultural professionals and journalists who wish to know more about
the cultural strategy of the Institut français in Nigeria and what we have
achieved so far to support emerging talents, are warmly invited to attend.
The
restaurant “Attieke Republic” will be open all day to serve delicious meals
from Nigeria and Ivory Coast in the Institut français garden.
